About UsMerlene Stuerzer founded Cat Adoption Center (a registered non-profit organization) in December 1992 to guarantee a safe, no-kill environment for homeless cats and kittens. Her goal was--and still is--to find caring homes for animals who would otherwise face a very short life on the street. The cats are caged for observation only during their initial indoctrination, which includes spay or neutering, worming, vaccinations, testing for feline leukemia, and adjustment to their shelter mates. Once they feel safe, they are free to sleep on window ledges and counters, or play with the many toys available to them.Merlene signed up with Animal Aid of Tulsa in 1968 as foster home and rescuer of injured animals. From 1987 to 1990, she was daytime coordinator. Altogether, she has been involved with animals for nearly 35 years , having worked for almost every animal rescue group in Tulsa at one time or another. Her dedication to her nearly 24-hour day job is evidenced by the fact that she lives next-door to CAC. ![]() Merlene with some of her feline friends |
